Union Major General William Hemsley Emory: Matthew Brady Carte de Visite and Clipped Signature. Major General William H. Emory (1811-1887) served with distinction during the Shenandoah Valley Campaign of 1864, this after a notable pre-war career surveying the Texas-Mexican border and Gadsden Purchase. Featured is a handsome Brady portrait of Emory in uniform measuring 2.5" x 4", with a Brady imprint on the verso and recto. A bit of wear to the lower left corner, otherwise an excellent example. Also included is a clipped signature, 4.5" x 2.5", signed "W. H. Emory / late Major Genl / Comdg 19th Corps", likewise in excellent condition.
