    Union Major General John Newton Pair of Cartes de Visite. (1) CDV of the general posed standing in uniform, approximately 2.5" x 3.75", with an E. & H. T. Anthony, New York studio mark on the verso, from a negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery. Age toning to the image and mount, else very good. (2) Bust portrait of the general in uniform, approximately 2.25" x 4", with a J. A. McClees, Philadelphia studio mark on the verso. A bright portrait in excellent condition. John Newton (1822-1895) was an 1842 graduate of West Point and as an engineer participated in many major battle of the war including Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and others.
