    Union Major General Adelbert Ames: Carte de Visite and Clipped Signature "A. Ames / Bvt. Maj. Genl." CDV approximately 2.5" x 4" with an E. & H. T. Anthony studio mark on the verso. From a photographic negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery. The CDV has a tax stamp affixed to the verso and the general is identified in ink just beneath his portrait. The clipped signature measures 4.5" x 2.25" and bears Ames' bright, bold signature. Adelbert Ames (1835-1933) was an 1861 graduate of West Point who fought in many actions during the war, at one point commanding the famed 20th Maine Regiment. Ames was wounded at the First Battle of Bull Run, and found with distinction at Gaine's Mill, Fredericksburg and Gettysburg among others. Slight toning to the image, else in excellent condition.
