    Union General Isaac I. Stevens Autograph Note Signed. One ruled page, 7.75" x 9.75", "Head Quarters, 1st Div. Burnsides Expedition, Newport News," July 22, 1862. In this rare Civil War-dated Stevens' ALS, the Massachusetts' native notifies an unnamed recipient that his letter had been received. Gen. Stevens was killed on September 1, 1862, while leading his troops in a charge at the Battle of Chantilly. Toned paper with smoothed folds.
