    Union Colonel Ulric, Killed in Action on a Raid on Richmond, Carte de Visite Signed by His Father Rear Admiral John A. Dahlgren. Approximately 2.5" x 4" with a Henry Ulke, Washington, D.C. studio imprint on the verso. Mounted in a 4.5" x 6" album page. Signed by Rear Admiral Dahlgren along the lower edge of the image "Colonel Ulric Dahlgren / from his father / R. Admiral Dahlgren". The album page bears a contemporary ink caption: "Ulric Dahlgren (son of Admiral Dahlgren) / Colonel of Cavalry on Maj. General Meade's staff / Killed in a raid on Richmond March 4, 1864". Papers allegedly found on Dahlgren's body indicated the point of the raid was to assassinate Confederate President Jeff Davis. The papers may have contributed to John Wilkes Booth's assassination of Lincoln.
