    Union Cartes-de-Visite: William Farquhar Barry, James Barnes, Henry Alanson Barnum and John Gross Barnard. Four (4) cartes including an unmarked William Farquhar Barry (1818-1879); an unmarked full-standing James Barnes (1801-1869); Henry Alanson Barnum (1833-1892); and John Gross Barnard (1815-1882), which shows light foxing. Barnum and Barnard cartes are from E & H. T. Anthony, New York, with the Barnard from a negative from Brady's National Portrait Gallery. Barry served as Chief of Artillery for both McClellan and Sherman. He fought in a series of battles from First Bull Run to Atlanta and the Carolinas. Barnes was a civil engineer for the railroads. He fought at Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg where he was wounded in action. Barnum was wounded in several key battles, including Malvern Hill, Gettysburg, Lookout Mountain and the Atlanta Campaign. Barnard served in the Corps of Engineers for 48 years with a brief stint as Superintendent at West Point. He was in charge of the defenses of Washington, D.C. and assisted Grant in the siege of Petersburg. From the collection of Dr. Michael Krane.
