Union Cartes-de-Visite: Thomas Algeo Rowley, John Cleveland Robinson, Lovell Harrison Rousseau, Israel Bush Richardson, William S. Rosecrans and James Brewerton Ricketts . Six (6) cartes including Thomas Algeo Rowley (1808-1892) by Trask & Davis, Portland, Maine; John Cleveland Robinson (1817-1897) by Brady National Portrait Gallery, New York; Lovell Harrison Rousseau (1818-1869); Israel Bush Richardson (1815-1862); William S. Rosecrans (1819-1898); and James Brewerton Ricketts (1817-1887). The cartes of Rousseau, Richardson, Rosecrans, and Ricketts are by Anthony, New York, with those of Rosecrans and Ricketts from negatives from Brady's National Portrait Gallery. Rowley was Colonel of the 13th and 102nd Pennsylvania Regiments. He participated in a wide range of battles from the Peninsula through Gettysburg and Chancellorsville. Robinson, a veteran of the Mexican War, Seminole War and Utah Expedition of 1857, performed admirably in the Civil War. He repelled rioters from Baltimore's Fort McHenry, fought at the Peninsula, Second Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg (holding off a large Confederate force for 4 hours) and Laurel Hill where his charge was repulsed and he was wounded in the knee, necessitating amputation. In 1894, he was awarded the M.O.H. for his heroic actions there. Rousseau was a criminal lawyer and career politician. He fought at Shiloh, Perryville and led "Rousseau's Alabama Raid" July 10-22, 1864. He caned an Iowa Congressman in 1865 and was forced to resign from the House. Richardson, known as "Fighting Dick" and "Greasy Dick", was a veteran of the Mexican and Seminole Wars. He was Colonel of the 2nd Michigan Regiment and fought at First Bull Run, the Peninsula, Second Bull Run, South Mountain and Antietam. He led troops at "Bloody Lane" and fell wounded, dying not too long afterwards. Ricketts was thrice-wounded in the war, serving from First Bull Run to Appomattox. He led the VI Corps at the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Cold Harbor, Petersburg and Monocacy. From the collection of Dr. Michael Krane.
