    Description

Union Cartes-de-Visite: John Milton Brannan, Dr. Reed B. Bontecou and Frank Brownell [Signed]. Three (3) cartes including unmarked John Milton Brannan (1819-1892); an unmarked full-standing Reed B. Bontecou, M.D. (1824-1907); and a signed Frank Brownell (1840-1894) by J. Gurney & Son, New York. Brannan, an artillery specialist, initially fought in Florida, then was assigned to the Army of the Ohio. He fought at Chickamauga, Chattanooga and the Atlanta Campaign. Dr. Reed Bontecou supervised Harewood Hospital in Washington, D.C. and submitted many photographs of wounded soldiers who had undergone surgery to the fledgling Army Medical Museum. Frank Brownell, the avenger of Col. Ellsworth, appears in a wonderful Gurney carte which he has boldly signed on verso "Truly yours/ Frank E. Brownell/ U. S. army". From the collection of Dr. Michael Krane.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
