    Description

Union Cartes-de-Visite: Henry Jackson Hunt, Andrew Atkinson Humphreys and Albion Parris Howe. Three (3) cartes including Henry Jackson Hunt (1819-1889) by Alexander Gardner, Washington, D.C.; Andrew Atkinson Humphreys (1810-1883) by E & H.T. Anthony, New York; and Albion Parris Howe (1818-1897) by Brady's National Portrait Gallery, New York. Hunt was an artillery specialist and an expert in light artillery tactics. He achieved great results as long as no efforts were made to undermine the units under his command, which was not always the case. He fought at First Bull Run, Malvern Hill, Antietam, Fredericksburg and Gettysburg (his seventy Cemetery Hill guns repulsing Pickett's Charge). Humphreys was an engineer who served on the staffs of McClellan and Meade. He fought at Antietam, Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. He commanded the II Corps for the last six months of the war. Howe, an artillery officer and veteran of the Mexican War, participated in some of the key battles of the war (Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Mine Run) and served on the military tribunal of the Lincoln assassination conspirators. From the collection of Dr. Michael Krane.
