    Union Brigadier General James William Forsyth Wartime Clipped Signature and Carte de Visite. 1) Clipped signature, 3.75" x 2", "Jas. W. Forsyth / Brig. Genl & Chief of Staff / Army of the Shenandoah". Excellent condition. 2) Beautifully clear and sharp CDV bust portrait of Forsyth in uniform, with unidentified ribbon/medal on his chest. T. Lilienthal, New Orleans studio imprint on the verso and lower edge of the recto. Excellent condition. Forsyth was an 1856 graduate of West Point and served with distinction during the Civil War. He was in command of the 7th Cavalry at the Wounded Knee Massacre.
