    Union Brevet Major General William Woods Averell Three (3) Cartes de Visite & One (1) Image of Christopher C. Augur. All examples approximately 2.5" x 4". Includes: (1) CDV of Averell posed seated in civilian clothing, with a Brady's studio mark on the verso and lower edge of the recto. Mild spotting and abrasions on the verso, else a bright, clear example in excellent condition. (2) CDV bust portrait of the general in uniform, no studio mark present. Contemporary caption in pencil on the lower edge of the image; some age toning, else very good. (3) CDV of the general in uniform, seated. C. D. Fredricks & Company, New York studio mark on the verso. Damp staining to the lower edge of the image and corresponding mount, else good condition. (4) Superb CDV of the General Christopher C. Augur in uniform, posed seated cradling his sword. No studio marks present. Excellent condition. William W. Averell (1832-1900) graduated from West Point Military Academy in 1855. He was present at many of the important battles of the Civil War including First Bull Run, Peninsula, Seven Days, and Fredericksburg among others.
