Description
Union Brevet Major General Hugh Boyle Ewing Signed Carte de Visite. Approximately 2.5" x 4", with an Oster & Brother, Louisville studio mark on the verso. A sharp, bright portrait of the general, in uniform signed at the lower edge "Hugh Ewing". Mounting remnants on the verso, else fine. Hugh Ewing (1826-1905) was forced to resign from West Point after failing his engineer exam. However, he was an able commander and participated in many important battles of the war including Antietam, Vicksburg and Chattanooga.Auction Info
