Two Civil War Period Cartes-de-Visite Albums from Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Both albums brown embossed leather, 5" X 6", 2" thick. The two albums contain 26 Civil War period military images, along with a number of aesthetically exceptional CDVs including unusual group portraits, boy with dog, girl with doll, some important political figures in rare poses etc. Most portraits bear the backmarks of Carlisle photographers. Only a couple of the military images are identified, however, the albums are clearly associated with the family of Frederick Watts of Carlisle, Pa. with a number of images identified to this family. One album missing both brass clasps, the other retaining one of the original clasps, with loose front cover and spine. All images excellent. Really an exceptional group of images, with many IDs doubtless discernible through diligent research. We see one example by Henry Ulke of Washington, D.C. showing two women comforting each other, one of whom looks a great deal like Mrs. Stephen A. Douglas.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
