    Three Civil War Era Cartes de Visite Featuring African-American Subjects. Including: 1) CDV of an African-American man seated, identified on the verso in a contemporary hand: "James Wilkinson / who befriended the / Union prisoners in / the city of Charleston". The verso with the studio imprint of H. C. Foster, Morris Island, South Carolina. Light toning, otherwise excellent condition. 2) Unidentified African-American man posed standing barefoot and in rather ragged clothing. No studio imprint. A fine, sharp image in excellent condition. 3) Portrait of seven African-American men and women with a Hovey, Philadelphia studio imprint on the verso. The date "Jan 25 1863" and "Carolina" is written in a contemporary hand on the verso. Moderate age-toning to the mount, but the image remains clear and in very good condition.
