    Thomas Peck Ochiltree Carte de Visite by Mathew Brady. 2.3" x 4", a seated pose in uniform; with Brady studio backstamp. Period identification in pencil as well as a cancelled revenue stamp. It appears that the albumen has been mounted wrong side up. The image is offered together with an Ochiltree signature on a small card (3.5" x 2"), signed as United States congressman for the 7th district in Texas.
    Ochiltree has a rich history of service to the state of Texas. He volunteered as a private in Captain John G. Walker's company of Texas Rangers against the Apaches and Comanches in 1854 and 1855. When the Civil War broke out, he enlisted in the 1st Texas Regiment of the CSA, eventually reaching the rank of major. After the war, he served as a commissioner of immigration in Europe, and was elected to the 48th US Congress in 1883, serving for one term.

    Condition: Light soiling, with a small crease to the albumen. Mount is trimmed at top right corner, with some wear. Pencil identification on verso. Signed card has light soiling and mounting remnants on verso.
