Thomas "Boston" Corbett Carte de Visite Signed
"Boston Corbett." 2.5" x 4", no imprint is present, but with a blue George Washington two-cent revenue stamp on the verso. A seated portrait of Corbett, dressed in civilian clothes and with his arm resting on the table next to him. His signature appears on the back of the card.

Thomas H. Corbett (1832-circa 1894) was a Union soldier who served in Co. I of the 12th NY Militia as well as in Co. L of the 16th NY Cavalry Regiment. As the man who shot and killed John Wilkes Booth, Sergeant Boston Corbett should have been a wildly popular celebrity in the postwar North. His religious fanaticism, however, alienated nearly all with whom he came in contact. He later died while on the run after escaping from an insane asylum. Most believe that he died in the Great Hinckley Fire on September 1, 1894. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.

Condition: Toned throughout, with foxing and soiling around the edges and top of the image. The corners have minor wear, and the top two corners may have been clipped. Else good.
