    Description

Seven Uniformed Ulysses S. Grant Cartes de Visite. Grant's rise as a Union general is well documented in this group. There are two CDVs showing him as a Major General; two as a Lieutenant General; and three as a full General. Only one image - the earliest and rarest, dated 1863 - has a backmark. This reads "Barr & Young, Army Photographers, Palace of Art, Vicksburg, Mississippi." One of the other CDVs is surely postwar as it identifies Grant as "President". Soiling and somewhat worn corners. Overall very good condition. From the collection of Henry E. Luhrs.
