Robert E. Lee: Plecker Portrait in Rare Carte-de-Visite [CDV] Format. Outdoor view of Lee standing beside his war-time horse, Traveller. Made by A. H. Plecker and his assistant Michael Miley at Rockbridge Baths, Virginia, in the summer of 1866. The original negative was evidently lost or broken, so all examples that surface are copies of the original photographic print, typically heavily retouched, as is this one. The line in the photograph at the top suggests that Plecker photographed his enlarged and painted copy to make this CDV. Affixed to coated stock mount. Back mark of "A. H. Plecker, Traveling Artist." Light soiling and wear.
From the collection of Dr. Donald Hopkins.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
