    Description

Robert E. Lee Carte de Visite Signed "RE Lee." 2.5" x 4", with no imprint present on verso. An oval portrait of Lee, looking directly into the camera and wearing a double-breasted frock coat and vest, taken during the Fall/Winter of 1865-1866 by Isaac N. White and Joseph Kelly. Cancelled 2-cent revenue stamp on verso, inscribed "Kelley & White." After the war, Lee became the president of Washington College. Despite having joined the Confederacy, Lee would go on to urge southerners not to reignite hostilities between the South and the Federal government. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.

Condition: Boldly signed. Light toning throughout. A few small tears at the albumen's top edge and in the background to the left of Lee's head.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
