    Description

Robert E. Lee Carte de Visite Signed "RE Lee." 2.5" x 4", with an E. & H.T. Anthony, New York imprint on verso. A handsome vignette bust portrait of Lee, the original taken at Brady's National Portrait Gallery. Lee is seen dressed in civilian clothes, a dark suit and a bow tie. Signed at the bottom portion of the albumen. This photograph is one of four variants taken by Brady in early 1866. Lee, of course, was the most celebrated general of the Confederate forces during the Civil War. He spent his post-war life as president of Washington College (now Washington and Lee University). From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.

Condition: Lightly toned throughout. The top two corners of the albumen have been clipped, and there is a small amount of loss at the lower left edge of the albumen. Minor wear to the mount corners, along with a few areas of light soiling to the albumen. Two small spots of soiling on verso.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
