    Robert B. Mitchell Signed Carte de Visite. 2.25" x 4", a standing portrait in uniform, with no backstamp. Signed below the image: "Robert B. Mitchell Brig. Gen. U.S.A."

    Robert Byington Mitchell (1823-1882) was a brigadier general in the Union Army. He was wounded at the Battle of Wilson's Creek, but returned to active duty and commanded a brigade at Fort Riley. During the Chickamauga campaign he was removed from active duty and spent the rest of the war in command of the District of Nebraska and the District of Kansas. After the war he briefly served as the Governor of the New Mexico Territory.

    Condition: Clipped corners. Light soiling and foxing throughout. Slight bumping to the edges.
