Quincy A. Gillmore Carte de Visite Signed
"QA Gillmore Maj Genl." 2.5" x 4", with a Brady's New York imprint on verso. A three-quarter length portrait of the Union general in full uniform. Signed beneath the albumen on the mount.

    Q. A. Gillmore (1825-1888) was an 1849 graduate of West Point and served with distinction during the war, commanding the 10th Corp beginning in June 1863. He became known for his superb organization of artillery and siege operations, and later helped revolutionize the use of the newly improved rifled naval guns. Towards the end of the war, he was assigned to command the Department of the South and was present when Charleston and Fort Sumter fell into Federal hands. After the war, he resigned from the army and became a prominent civil engineer and author. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.

Condition: Light silvering, else very good.
