    Nathaniel Banks Signed Twice Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 4", a seated portrait in uniform, with an E. & H.T. Anthony, New York backstamp. Signed below the image: "N.P. Banks" and on verso: "S.N. Pamela with respects of N.P. Banks Oct 24, 1861."

    Nathaniel P. Banks (1816-1894) was initially appointed as general in charge of the regulars at West Point. After facing difficulties during the Shenandoah Valley Campaign, President Lincoln had Banks reassigned as commander the Department of the Gulf, in New Orleans, taking over from Gen. Benjamin Butler.

    Condition: Light edge toning. Minor chipping at the photograph's edges. Boldly signed.
