    Medal of Honor Winner General Oliver O. Howard: Carte de Visite and AQS. 4.5" x 3.5" Autographed Quotation Signed on thick card stock, reading: "Certainly, Dear Sir, a sentiment is easily written. for example: Character is of more importance than Reputation. Very truly yours Oliver O. Howard Major General U. S. Army San Francisco, Cal. Mar 21st 1887". Sold together with a CDV of Howard in uniform, blind-stamped "Webster & Bros. Louisville" (trimmed on three sides with two clipped corners). Howard (1830-1909) was commander of the Army of the Tennessee in Sherman's March to the Sea. He fought at 1st Bull Run, Yorktown, Fair Oaks (twice wounded and awarded the MOH), Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and the Atlanta Campaign. He founded Howard University and served as its president 1869-1874.
