Major General Thomas J. Wood Carte de Visite Signed "T.J. Wood Maj Genl 4th A.C." 2.5" x 4", with a Morse's, Nashville imprint and a blue George Washington two-cent revenue stamp on the verso. A vignette bust portrait of the Union general, seen dressed in his military uniform. Signed at the bottom of the albumen and on the mount below. Thomas J. Wood (1823-1906) was an 1845 graduate of West Point, who served in the Mexican War before fighting in the Civil War. He had an exemplary war record, being twice wounded, and fought at important battles such as Shiloh, Stone's River, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, the Atlanta Campaign, Franklin and Nashville. After the war, he served for a period with the Freedmen's Bureau before retiring from service in 1868. Wood applied for a Medal of Honor but unfortunately, his application was denied. He was an active member of the GAR and when he passed away in 1906, he was the last to die of his 1845 West Point class. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.

Condition: Lightly toned throughout, with minor wear and soiling at the edges. Overall very good and boldly signed.
