Lot of Three Cartes de Visite Featuring Portraits of Indian War Era Soldiers. 2.5" x 4". The earliest image of the trio features an unidentified light artillery private outfitted in his dress uniform and shako. Images of this uniform are quite rare. The verso bears a "A.P. Trott, Washington Street, Junction City, Kansas" studio mark. Junction City was near Ft. Riley, a post associated with many famous military figures of the day, including George A. Custer. The image has faded with time and there are a few scattered small stains, otherwise it is in very good condition. The second CDV is a portrait of an unidentified infantryman wearing a kepi with the insignia for I Company of the 16 Infantry Regiment. The verso has a "Mosser & Cosand Ft. Reno I.T." studio mark. This image, too, has slightly faded but is in very good condition. The third CDV is a superb image of an unidentified Cavalryman in uniform, kepi and wearing gauntlets. The verso has a "Rose Bud Agency Dakota Territory" studio mark. This image is bright, sharp and in excellent condition. From the estate collection of E. F. Mueller.
