    James Mott Carte de Visite Photo. A 2.5" x 4" CDV with a "F. Gutekunst/ Philadelphia" backmark, no date. Written in pencil in an unknown hand on the verso is: "Wm. [sic] Mott/ Lucretia Motts/ husband". James Mott (1788-1868) was an anti-slavery and women's rights activist, and one of the founders of Swarthmore College. He was married to the very early supporter of women's political rights, Lucretia Mott. Very fine condition with minor rounding of the corners and a tiny mark in the field above his head.
