Group of Three Probably Unknown/ Unpublished Civil War Views of Harpers Ferry, Virginia. All images 7 1/8" X 8 3/4" on 9' X 11" mounts. (1) First view with a group of six soldier's and a civilian at "JEFFERSON'S ROCK, NEAR HARPERS FERRY". At lower left bears the logo "Bowlsby, Artist." The reverse of the image includes the names of all of the subjects as well as the notation "this was taken March 1865 when Chas Finley's father came to visit his son", apparently the civilian in the image. Image with just some very minor even fading but really excellent. Bowlsby is unlocated and unidentified but he is believed to be a photographer from the area surrounding Harpers Ferry..; (2) The second image shows a great overview of Harpers Ferry, the river bridges etc. as well as the title of the image in script below "Camp of Penna. Engineers Harpers Ferry". The reverse of the image contains much additional information including the name "Hamilton H. Kain / Norristown Montgomery / Pennsylvania." Kain is listed in records as a member of Wrigley's Company of Pennsylvania Engineers in 1865. Additional ID states "Camp of Penna. Engineers Harpers Ferry July 1865 In the Park along Bolivar Road" Shows numerous tents/huts with soldiers milling about in the center of the image. Even fading but still quite crisp.; (3) the third image is identified in ink script at the bottom as "Pontoon Bridge Across the Shenandoah River Harpers Ferry Mar(ch) Written next to the bridge "I saved 2 Comdes from Drowning" , "John Brown's Fort" is identified in left foreground and the train cars sitting in the foreground are identified as "Major McKinley's Regt 18 Ohio on the train returning home". Much additional information written on the back including once again the name of "Hamilton H. Kain". Image with minor even fading but very crisp and very busy.

The mounts on all of the images have some chips and some soiling but very sound and no damage affecting images. An extremely important and historic group of Civil War images.
