    Description

Four Cartes de Visite Featuring Civil War-era African Americans. All near 2.5" x 4" and featuring, presumably, slaves (or freedmen) of various ages. Three CDVs show individuals (an elderly woman, an elderly man, and a baby). The fourth CDV features four possible slaves. No photographer's identification on any of the cards. The CDV of the child was published by E. Anthony in 1862 and reads in the margin below the image, "Young Africa. Or the Bone of Contention." Images contain some soiling and foxing.
