David Farragut Signed Twice Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 4", chest up portrait of Farragut in uniform, with a Brady, Washington D.C. backstamp on verso. Signed below the image and on verso: "D.G. Farragut Vice Admiral." On verso is also a blue 2 cent George Washington stamp.

David G. Farragut (1801-1870) served as a flag officer in the U.S. Navy during the Civil War. He is best remembered for his victory at the Battle of Mobile Bay. After the U.S.S. Tecumseh struck a mine and sank in Mobile Bay, Farragut, lashed to the rigging of his flagship, ordered his disarrayed fleet to proceed at full speed, thus enabling a decisive victory.

Condition: Toning and soiling to the edges, with wear to the corners. Foxing and soiling throughout and on verso. Some paper loss to the stamp on verso.
