    Confederate Lieutenant General John Bell Hood Carte de Visite Signed "J.B. Hood". 2.5" x 4", With a J.A. Sheldon, New Orleans imprint on verso. A three quarter length portrait of Hood, dressed in his uniform with his hands crossed in his lap. Signed beneath the albumen on the mount. On verso has been written in pencil, "From Gen. J.B. Hood N. Orleans La June 20, 1866."

    Kentucky-born John Bell Hood (1831 - 1879) graduated from the U. S. Military Academy in 1853. As commander of the Texas Brigade during the war's early days, Hood rose to prominence in the Army of Northern Virginia. He was transferred to the Army of Tennessee after Gettysburg and was tasked with the impossible order of trying to keep Sherman out of Atlanta. From the Bret J.     Condition: Foxing throughout, with light corner wear. Minor edge soiling. There is light silvering present at the lower margin of the albumen.
