    Confederate General Joseph Eggleston Johnston Carte de Visite and Clipped Signature. Includes: (1) Bust portrait CDV of General Johnston in uniform, measuring approximately 2.5" x 4" with a Lumpkin & Tomlinson, Richmond studio imprint on the verso and two cent George Washington revenue stamp. Light age toning else a fine clear image. (2) Clipped signature, approximately 3.25" x 1.5", "J. E. Johnston / Major Genl C.S.A.". Moderate toning to paper with a bit of scattered foxing, else very good condition. Joe Johnston (1807-1891) was an 1829 graduate of West Point. He served with distinction during the Mexican-American War and Seminole War. Johnston was one of the most senior Confederate officers and fought well at First Battle of Bull Run, Peninsula Campaign, Seven Pines, and the Vicksburg and Atlanta campaigns.
