Confederate Cartes-de-Visite: William Booth Taliaferro, Richard Taylor, Thomas Hart Taylor and J. E. B. Stuart. Four (4) cartes including an unmarked William Booth Taliaferro (1822-1898); Richard Taylor (1826-1879), which is slightly foxed; Thomas Hart Taylor (1825-1901); and J. E. B. Stuart (1833-1864), also slightly foxed. The Richard Taylor, Thomas Hart Taylor, and Stuart cartes are by E & H.T. Anthony, New York. Taliaferro made himself an enemy of Stonewall Jackson, criticizing and intriguing against him, and was generally disliked by his troops. He still served with distinction at Cedar Mountain, Groveton (three times wounded), Fredericksburg and at Battery Wagner, repulsing two assaults by 6,000 Federals. Richard Taylor was a son of Zachary Taylor and had no military training, yet served admirably against superior forces, most notably at Red River and the defense of Mobile. Thomas Hart Taylor of Kentucky fought in the Peninsula Campaign and at Vicksburg, serving under Kirby Smith and Stephen Lee. From the collection of Dr. Michael Krane.
