Confederate Cartes-de-Visite: Albert Sidney Johnston, Joseph E. Johnston, Bushrod Rust Johnson and Edward Johnson. Four (4) cartes including an unmarked Albert Sidney Johnston (1803-1862); Joseph E. Johnston (1807-1891); Bushrod Rust Johnson (1817-1880); and Edward Johnson (1816-1873). The Joseph E. Johnston, Bushrod Johnson, and Edward Johnson cartes are by E & H.T. Anthony, New York. A. S. Johnston was a veteran of the Texas War of Independence, the Black Hawk War, the Mexican War and the Utah Expedition of 1857. Placed in command of Department No. 2 covering a vast area, he was wounded at Shiloh and bled to death, depriving the Confederacy of his considerable talents. J. E. Johnston served in the Mexican and Seminole Wars. He experienced friction with Jefferson Davis and had mixed results on the battlefield. He repulsed McClellan in the Peninsula Campaign and was wounded at Seven Pines. He signed final surrender terms with General Sherman on April 18, 1865. Bushrod Johnson was wounded at Shiloh, fought at Stone's River and distinguished himself at Chickamauga. Edward Johnson is remembered as one of the South's best division commanders. The colorful and gruff veteran fought with Stonewall Jackson in the Shenandoah Campaign, was wounded at the Battle of McDowell, fought at Gettysburg, the Wilderness and Spotsylvania ("Bloody Angle"). He was taken prisoner at Nashville. From the collection of Dr. Michael Krane.
