    Civil War: Southern Sympathizer George Proctor Kane Carte de Visite, Gem Tintype, and Civil War Cover.
    Comprising: 1.) Albumen CDV of Kane as Marshall of Baltimore, three-quarter standing pose in a double-breasted jacket, his hand tucked inside in his jacket. Tanner & Vanness, Lynchburg, Virginia studio imprint on the verso. 2.) Gem-size tintype in gilt mat, featuring a bust portrait of Kane likely wearing the same jacket as the previous image. A paper label on the verso reads: "Marshal [sic] / Kane. / Abbott & Co., 143 Nas- / sau St. N.Y.". 3.) Civil War-era cover depicting a caricature of Kane standing next to the houses of Secession and Union with the caption "Cain of Baltimore". Kane was an ardent Southern sympathizer. In his capacity of Marshall of the Baltimore police, Kane contributed to a riot which accounted for some of the first casualties of the Civil War. After the war he was elected mayor of Baltimore.

    Condition: 1.) Very good. Small area of loss along the left margin of the image. 2.) Very good. 3.) Very good. Paper a bit toned, with mounting remnants on the verso.
