Civil War Patriot & Hero of Gettysburg John L. Burns Signed Carte-de-visite, 2.5" x 4", on a Brady studio mount with back stamp. A resident of Gettysburg, PA, Burns was rejected for battle and sent home due to his age. During Confederate Maj. Gen. Jubal Early's occupation of Gettysburg Burns was jailed for civil disobedience after resisting Early's authority. During the Battle of Gettysburg, John Burns took his musket and joined the fighting. At McPherson's Woods he fought along side the 7th Wisconsin Infantry, then later with the 24th Michigan. He fought alongside these men who were the famous Iron Brigade and served effectively as a sharpshooter.
Later Burns after being wounded, he was left by the Union on the battlefield. Managing to crawl away from his gun and hide his ammo, he convinced the Confederates that he was a non- combatant who had wandered on to the battlefield, so they took him to their surgeons to have his wounds dressed.
After hearing the story of John Burns, Mathew Brady 's photographer Timothy H. O' Sullivan photographed the veteran.

Condition: Very crisp image, in excellent condition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
