    Civil War: Glass Plate Negatives in the Original Wooden Storage Box.
    17" x 9" x 8.5" box with hinged lid and metal handles on either end. The lid has a painted inscription: " E. Duplicates [illegible] 205 to 254". The interior has two compartments with slots that could accommodate fifty negatives. There are twenty-six negatives in the collection. The notable subjects include: A. P. Hill (triple image), Rafael Semmes (triple image with spotting and loss), Confederate General Roger Pryor (double image wearing civilian clothing), Sterling Price (double image), an unidentified high-ranking Confederate officer, Rafael Semmes (double image) and yet another Rafael Semmers (triple-vignetted image on double-thickness glass) and another A. P. Hill (double-image). The negatives are a mix of dry plate and wet collodion. One composite image is the work of a London photographer, so these are probably English in origin. Includes two paper mats used to create an "oval" aperture around a portrait. Lid detached. Eric C. Caren Collection.
