Carte de Visite of the Lynching of Two Chippewa Indians for the Murder of Helen McArthur. A different view of an identified image posted on that recounts the history of the murder of Helen McArthur, a young white woman who was kidnapped and murdered by two "half-breed" Chippewa Indians in Brainerd, Minnesota. Although the men were arrested and were being tried for her murder, the angry crowd was frustrated by an adjournment given during the trial and the men were lynched on July 23, 1872. Ms. McArthur's body was not found for another five years.

The image shows the two men, one with his arms tied behind their backs, hanging from a tall tree. In the foreground are gathered twenty or more men, their backs to the dead men. The image is toned, and a bit cloudy. The CDV is housed in a plastic protector.
