    Canvassing for Votes Cartoon by R. N. Brooke. 7" x 9.75", no place; November 2, 1872. A political cartoon published in Harper's Weekly, illustrating how the black votes were solicited across the South in the 1870s, which helped to elect men like Blanche K. Bruce, the Mississippi senator elected in 1874. The cartoon illustrates some of the cultural stereotypes that were widespread during this era. They are matted and framed side-by-side to an overall size of 16.25" x 17.25". Not examined outside of the frame.

    Condition: Very gently toned.
