Webb lost 451 of his men in the attack and sustained a wound himself. He was later awarded the Medal of Honor and returned to action at Bristoe, Mine Run and Spotsylvania, where he was wounded again. After the war, Webb served as President of C.C.N.Y. for 33 years.
