DescriptionAlexander McDowell McCook and Staff Signed Albumen. 6.5" x 4.25", a group shot of McCook and his staff on a house porch, with no backstamp on verso. Signed at the bottom of the card: "A McD McCook Major Genl U.S. Vols." On verso is a clipped article detailed McCook's Civil War military career and a handwritten numbered list of the men seen in the photograph. They're listed as "#1-surgeon, #2-Major Caleb Bates, #3-Capt Anchnurty, #4-Gen. A. McD. McCook, #5-Lt Col Julius Hayden, #6-Capt Frank Jones, #7-[blank]."
Alexander McDowell McCook (1831-1903), one of the famous "Fighting McCooks" of Ohio, fought at Shiloh, Perryville, Stone's River and Chickamauga. He commanded the XX Corps at Chickamauga. Their rout and the ensuing criticism leveled at McCook pretty much ended his military career.
Condition: Light toning throughout, with foxing and soiling at the edges. Boldly signed.
