Abraham Lincoln: Four Cartes of His Springfield Home. Four different CDV's of the Lincoln homestead. The best example, O-39, was taken by John Adams Whipple of Boston in the summer of 1860. It shows Lincoln, Willie and Tad standing behind the picket fence with a blurred image of playmate Isaac Diller in the foreground (restoration to two clipped corners). One view by J. Q. A. Tresize of Springfield shows the home perhaps five years later. Another view by A. G. Townsend of Springfield shows the home draped in mourning with a boy, soldier and civilian standing on the corner. A final carte by D. C. Pratt of Aurora, Illinois shows several people standing around, including a man on the kitchen veranda (possibly the tenant). This is an unusual view, likely dating from the late 1860's.
