DescriptionUlysses S. Grant: Five Cabinet Cards on Mathew Brady Mounts. All five measure 4.25" x 6.5". The earliest of the four, on a cream colored mount, shows Grant sitting cross-legged next to a table, a book in his left hand. The photograph is undated, but likely taken circa late-1860s. Silvered in the darkened areas of the image.
The other four photographs, affixed to light green mounts, all come from the same sitting. Grant is considerably older in this series of photos than he was in the first image, as evidenced by the silver in his hair. In three of the four, his is seen standing, one of which is a vignette three-quarter length portrait. In the final card, Grant is again seated in a vignette portrait. A pencil notation on the verso of each of the four indicates that these images were taken during Grant's second term as president. All are in fine condition.
