Two Cabinet Cards of Sitting Bull (Tatonka Yotanka) With Calumet, Circa 1884. Excellent images of the famous Hunkpapa Lakota Sioux chief and Custer nemesis, (1) a photograph measuring 3.75" x 5.5", mounted on a Barton, Chamberlain, S.D. photographer's studio card to an overall size of 4.25" x 6.5". Sitting Bull poses standing, single feather in his hair, with wrapped braids, wearing a fringed jacket, beaded leggings and moccasins, holding a pipe, with a blanket hanging off of one shoulder. A facsimile signature appears in the lower margin of the photograph. The mounting card is tatty along the edges, and the photo exhibits some light scratches to the surface, otherwise it is in excellent condition. (2) A drawing of Sitting Bull, 4" x 5.75", on studio mounting with an overall size of 4" x 6", posed seated and holding a pipe with a group of tepees in the background. This image too, is in excellent condition.
