Tombstone, Arizona: Two Photographs of Tombstone, including an Image of a Stage Coach. Cabinet card photograph by Howland and Company of Los Angeles, California, of a stage coach and four horses owned by the Arizona Mail & Stage Company, circa 1880, 3.5" x 3.375" albumen print on a 5" x 5" mount. H.C. Walker was the proprietor of the Arizona Mail & Stage Company, with offices on Allen Street in Tombstone, which was one of the leading stage companies in early Tombstone. Stage coach businesses, such as Walker's, eventually faced brisk competition for mail and passage service when the railroad expanded in the West. Also a photograph of Fremont Street, Tombstone, in 1931. The photograph, 4.75" x 3.625," shows a deserted Fremont Street. By the 1930s Tombstone was had declined dramatically as this photograph attests. Both photographs are in excellent condition and offer fascinating views of the town in its heyday and during its decline.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
