    Description

Tombstone, Arizona: Photograph from Fly's Gallery. Cabinet card photograph of an unidentified young man with a gun taken at Fly's Gallery in Tombstone, undated, 4" x 6.75" albumen print on a 4.25" x 6.375" mount. Photographer C.S. Fly (1849-1901) and his wife Mary, also a photographer, moved to Tombstone in 1879 and established a photography studio. Fly, who witnessed the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, which occurred near his photography gallery, took photographs of many Tombstone residents. He took some of the earliest photographs of Native Americans in the region. Fly served as sheriff of Tombstone from 1895 to 1897. Since most of his negatives were destroyed by fires, his photographs are highly prized. This sharp image is in excellent condition.
