Robert E. Lee: Lee & Traveller Oversized Albumen Gifted to General Roger Pryor. 11.5" x 9.5" albumen photograph, framed to an overall size of 16.25" x 14.25", inscribed in ink at the bottom: "General Lee on Traveller - At Cottage Farm October 1864." This iconic image depicts Lee in military uniform astride his favorite horse. The photograph was widely copied and reprinted after the war, serving as the basis for numerous prints. This is an original produced during Lee's lifetime. Generally in very fine condition. The only defects worth noting is minor loss in the lower left corner and a faint crease that runs vertically down the horse's tail. This photo was gifted to Brigadier General Roger Atkinson Pryor (1828-1919) after Pryor's wife and children had stayed at Cottage Farm during the siege of Petersburg. The farm was owned by Sara Pryor's brother-in-law. Between late 1862 and late 1864, General Pryor did scouting and intelligence work at the request of Lee. After the war, the Pryors moved to New York City and did quite well for themselves, successfully making the adjustment to post-war society. This photo was recently sold at auction by the great-grandson of General Pryor.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
