Description

Scenes From the Pine Ridge Agency

Pine Ridge Agency: Two Albumen Boudoir Cabinet Card Photos of the Pine Ridge Agency, South Dakota, Circa 1890. Both images have studio imprints of the Northwestern Photographic Company, Chadron, Nebraska on the verso. The lot includes: (1) "Leaders of the Hostile Indians at Pine Ridge Agcy S. D. During the late Sioux War". The Sioux men are identified as Chief Two Strike, Chief Crow Dog, and Chief High Hawk. The man standing at the far left is identified in ink as "U.S. Deputy Marshal Bartlett". (2) A view of the Pine Ridge Agency taken from the stock pens. Many tipis can be seen in the distance, a bit obscured by either the smoke from cooking fires or by dust in the air. Of particular interest is a pile of buffalo or cow hooves in the left foreground and an interested dog in the background. Both images are a bit light and there is toning to the studio board; else they are in very good condition. From the estate collection of E.F. Mueller.
