DescriptionPhotograph Captain J.P. Donnely's Posse Gerlach, Nevada, 1911. A rare photograph taken in Gerlach, Nevada of Captain J.P. Donnely and posse- Donnely, three Nevada State policeman and fourteen members of the local township as volunteers of the posse. In February 1911, a band of Shoshone Indians lead by Shoshone Mike, slaughtered five local cattlemen, a mustache was cut off one body, the eyelid of another was missing and the gold fillings had all been removed. Nevada governor immediately dispatched Donnely and a posse was formed. Thirteen days and 200 miles later, the posse caught up with Shoshone Mike and his band. Measures approximately 8.25" x 6.25"
