DescriptionPhotograph Bowers Mansion, Washoe County, Nevada, 1875. The mansion was designed by J. Neeley Johnson, formerly the governor of California, and built at a cost of $300,000 in 1863. When Mr. Bowers died in 1868, his wife Eilley fell on hard financial times. She raised money by renting out the mansion and hosting parties but eventually lost her home to foreclosure in 1876. Photo depicts stagecoach arriving, two buggies parked out front, an American flag hanging from the third floor, and about two dozen guests. Image size: 7.75" x 6.25".
Condition. Very good, top of mount is absent with no loss of image.
